Which type of oil is best for lubricating 1/4'' Saw Chains?

The best oils for lubricating 1/4'' Saw Chains

1. Petroleum-based bar-and-chain oil: Experimental data shows that petroleum-based bar-and-chain oil performs best in reducing chain friction and guide plate temperature, providing a continuous and uniform lubricating film.
2. Biodegradable oil (environmentally friendly): Although it meets environmental requirements, its lubrication effect is slightly inferior to petroleum-based oils under high-load cutting. It is suitable for light-load or environmentally demanding work scenarios.
3. Regular engine oil (alternative): It can be used temporarily in emergencies, but its viscosity and additive formulation are incompatible, and long-term use will accelerate chain wear.

How to properly install 1/4'' Saw Chains?

Steps for properly installing 1/4'' Saw Chains

1. Confirm chain orientation: When placing the chain on the guide plate, first observe the cutting direction of the chain teeth. The cutting edge must face the direction of travel to prevent reverse assembly, which would result in almost zero cutting efficiency.

2. Secure both ends of the chain. Insert one chain link into the sprocket hole on the guide plate, ensuring it is securely fastened and not easily loosened. Repeat on the other side, aligning and securing it using the screw holes on the cover.
3. Adjust tension. Adjust the chain tension on the guide plate using the adjusting bolts or tension wheel to maintain a suitable tension (approximately 1mm of vertical movement), preventing chain skipping due to excessive looseness or wear due to excessive tightness.
4. Check operation. Manually rotate the guide plate to confirm that the chain runs smoothly without jamming. After assembly, start the machine at low speed and observe for any abnormal noise or jumping in the chain. If necessary, fine-tune the tension again.
